Learn Digi-scrapping with Photoshop Elements

Face to Face small group class

If you want to get into digital scrapbooking or into making digital photo albums but don't know where to start then here is one way you can get going. You can start from scratch with an introductory class and move on from there or you can jump in further along the learning path depending on your needs and prior experience.

Classes are run in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia.

Class format:

  • Small friendly group - maximum of 3 students in the class
  • Run in a comfortable home environment sitting around a shared table
  • Large screen for demonstrations
  • Qualified and experienced instructor
  • 3 hrs which includes a 20 minute break for morning tea

Each class includes:

  • A digital scrapbooking kit. Each kit includes coordinated papers and elements. You can choose either a 12x12 or an A4 format..
  • Class notes
  • A printout of one scrapbook page created in class. Printed on photoquality paper at either 8x8 or A4 format.
  • Morning or afternoon tea
  • Individual attention

Class requirements:

  • Bring your won laptop – PC or Mac. If you do not have a laptop, there are two Windows laptops that can be used in class but they need to be booked at the time your class is booked. Bring along your power cords as well.
  • Photoshop Elements loaded on your laptop. A free 30 day trial of the latest version (v9) can be downloaded from: http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/photoshopelwin/ for PC or http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/photoshopelmac/ for Mac. Earlier versions are fine although it is best if your version is at least v5. The class laptops have v7 on them.
  • Digital photos :
    • one main photograph to be the focus of your first page.
    • Also bring along at least a dozen images grouped into themes. For example you might have 6 images from a child's birthday party and 6 from a recent trip.
    • Images should be hi-res. Straight from your digital camera is usually OK

Class Information and Topics

A1: Album Making First Steps

At the end of your first lesson you will have created and printed your first album page using Photoshop Elements (PSE).

During class will see examples of albums and albums pages, explore the main features of PSE, create a new page, open and resize images, use the crop tool, arrange images on your page, use templates, play with ways such as drop shadows to make your images look impressive and, most importantly of all, you will learn how to use layers.

You will use a group of related images to build your page and add text and maybe some additional design elements.

Finally you will print off a copy of your first page to start your own album.

The page on the right is an example of a typical album page. Your page will be different and may have more or less images, more or less text.
